    • John Winning, CEO of Appliances Online wins Industry Recognition Award

22nd July: Appliances Online, Australia’s largest online appliance retailer, won a string of awards at last night’s annual Online Retail Industry Awards ceremony, including the prestigious Online Retailer of the Year title.

Appliances Online was in the running for Best Pureplay Online Retailer, Best Customer Service and John Winning, CEO and Founder of Appliances Online was a finalist for the Industry Recognition award, which he won. Commenting via video from Africa where he is climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for Cure Brain Cancer, John Winning dedicated the award to the Appliances Online team.

“I want to dedicate the award to the Appliances Online team and those who have helped me build the business up over the last twelve years. As an industry, we have a long way to go, which is very exciting. It’s a bright future for online retail,” said Mr Winning.

John Winning was working in his family’s century-old bricks and mortar retail business, Winning Appliances, when he saw the growth opportunity to sell whitegoods online. Despite John’s enthusiasm for online retail, management did not believe online retail could be successful, and in 2005 at just 21 years of age, John set out with a $50,000 business loan and founded a stand-alone online retail business.

Appliances Online catered to a growing market of Australians looking for an efficient, streamlined shopping experience that’s affordable, convenient and hassle-free. Expansion has occurred at every level of the business. Appliances Online now employs over 250 people and operates nationally via its own trucks and centralised warehouses in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA and satellite warehouses in Heatherbrae and Canberra. The company’s ongoing commitment to improving its service, and its delivery offering, sees it offer the best 2 man delivery service in the country.

In previous years Appliances Online has also been recognised as Best Customer Experience and Best Site Optimisation and Design.

  • Sydneysider Crowned Australia’s Best Home Chef

20 June, 2013 Best Home Chef

SYDNEYSIDER CROWNED AUSTRALIA’S BEST HOME CHEF

Home Chefs awarded a total of $75,000 worth of cooking appliances

20th June: National cooking competition and online food community, Best Home Chef, last night announced Sydney’s Stuart Talman as the inaugural winner of the online cooking competition that took Australia’s ‘foodie’ community by storm.

Launched in September of last year, Best Home Chef was created to encourage Australians to get back into the kitchen. Since its inception, more than 4000 Australians have signed up to the community and uploaded over 1,300 original recipes.

The finale cook-off took place last night at the new Winning Appliances Flagship Redfern Showroom on Sydney’s Danks Street where the professional chef mentor for Winning Appliances, Massimo Mele, entertained guests as the MC for the evening. Stuart cooked his winning recipe – White Chocolate Parfait with Lemon Curd and Shortbread Crumble – with SMEG mentor Luca Ciano. The winning duo competed against the other four finalists and their mentors:

    • Deborah Hopely and professional chef mentor Pete Evans, (My Kitchen Rules star and Wolf brand ambassador)
    • Snjezana Demo and professional chef mentor Mark Best (Marque Restaurant and AEG brand ambassador)
    • Sarah Lewis and professional chef mentor Hamish Ingham (The Woods, Four Seasons, Bar H and Siemens brand ambassador)
    • Melissa Darr and professional chef mentor Anthony Fischbeck, (Australian chef and Scholtes brand ambassador)

Melissa Darr was awarded the runner-up prize of $25,000 worth of cooking appliances for her fig almond and frangipane tart recipe while the other contestants received a $1000 voucher for Winning Appliances.

Stuart Talman, Australia’s first Best Home Chef winner, said taking part in the Best Home Chef community not only provided a great platform for home chefs to converse and learn from one another, but it also inspired creativity and innovation in his cooking.

“Best Home Chef has provided a great platform for home chefs to engage with one another, share recipes and encourage creativity in the kitchen. Although everyone who took part in Best Home Chef was ultimately competing against each other, we were also learning from each other.

“I’ve absorbed knowledge from all who took part in the community; from a talented 13-year-old contestant; to home chefs who have been cooking for decades; and most noticeably from my mentoring session with leading Italian chef consultant and SMEG brand ambassador Luca Ciano.

“Best Home Chef has taught me that there are no boundaries when it comes to cooking. Through creating my own recipes I have developed my own unique cooking style and learnt to use different ingredients and be more creative in the kitchen,” said Mr Talman.

Professional chef  and SMEG mentor Luca Ciano said Stuart’s passion and fresh approach to cooking was key driver behind his success in winning Australia’s inaugural Best Home Chef. “Best Home Chef celebrates home cooked food and its talented creators, and Stuart’s love for cooking and willingness to learn has been evident from the very beginning of the competition. Stuart has a real talent for cooking and funnily enough, despite his inhibitions about desserts, it was his white chocolate parfait with lemon curd and shortbread crumble recipe that won him the competition! Stuart has a bright future in front of him and I look forward to seeing him grow and develop as a chef,” said Ciano.

John Winning, CEO of Winning Group and founder of Best Home Chef, said the community highlights that Australia is a food nation with a passion for cooking. “The eclectic pool of recipes generated by the Best Home Chef community highlights how lucky we are to live in such a multi-cultural society. We have access to ingredients from all over the world and are exposed to different cuisines right here on our shores. The high standard and diverse range of recipes uploaded to Best Home Chef is testament to Australia’s hunger for culture and love for food – it’s been fantastic to see so many  Australians excited about getting back into the kitchen,” Mr Winning said.

The Best Home Chef is an ongoing community and cooking competition for home chefs to showcase their original recipes. Although the first competition has come to end Australians can still share and swap their recipes, cook tips and news at http://www.besthomechef.com.au.

The number of homeowners looking to renovate their kitchen has increased 8% since 2011 and Australians in general are becoming more willing to invest in their homes. They want to live in a home that reflects their personal style and want to be involved in the design process.”
