Best Home Chef announces its Top Five Finalists for Finale Cook-Off

18th June, 2013: National cooking competition and online food community Best Home Chef, has announced the five finalists who will compete for $75,000 worth of kitchen appliances with celebrity chef mentors at the Best Home Chef finale cook-off on Wednesday 19th June.

Winning Appliances, Australia’s premier kitchen and laundry specialist and Best Home Chef’s retail partner, launched the community in September of last year and the finale will take place at the new Winning Appliances Flagship Redfern Showroom. Since its launch, more than 4,000 Australians have signed up to the Best Home Chef community uploading more than 1300 original recipes.

Best Home Chef’s celebrity chef brand mentors, Pete Evans, Mark Best, Hamish Ingham, Massimo Mele, Anthony Fischbeck, and Luca Ciano, selected the five finalists from the top 25 recipes as voted by the community (based on ratings and reviews). The talented finalists include:

  1. 1.     QLD’s Deborah Hopley cooking with Pete Evans, My Kitchen Rules star and Wolf brand mentor

Deborah loves to cook and source fresh seasonal product from the Farmers markets. Deborah will be cooking her scallops, prosciutto and pea puree recipe for the cook-off.

  1. 2.     NSW’s Stuart Talman cooking with Luca Ciano, Chef Consultant and Smeg brand mentor

Willing to have a crack at anything and everything, Stuart has a fresh approach to cooking. He will be cooking his white chocolate parfait with lemon curd and shortbread crumble recipe.

  1. 3.     VIC’s Sarah Lewis cooking with Hamish Ingham, The Woods, Four Seasons

Hotel, Bar H and Siemens brand mentor

Sarah is a food blogger passionate about photography, cooking and food styling. Her food philosophy keeps things simple yet visually appetizing

and tasteful. Sarah will be cooking her original recipe for spicy lemongrass chicken with coconut juice.

  1. 4.     QLD’s Melissa Darr cooking with Anthony Fischbeck, Australian Chef and Scholtès brand mentor

Blogger and passionate baker, Melissa is most happy pottering around the kitchen. Melissa’s food philosophy revolves around using seasonal fresh ingredients – preferably from her own vegie patch. For the finale, Melissa will be cooking fig and almond frangipani tart.

  1. 5.     ViC’s Snjezana Demo cooking with Mark Best, Chef at Marque Restaurant and AEG brand mentor

Born and raised in Croatia, Snjezana was inspired by Australia’s multicultural society and her love for cooking developed when she moved

to Australia and experienced the variety of local fresh produce and ingredients available. Snjezana will cook her original recipe for rabbit in red wine and vinegar sauce.

John Winning, CEO of Winning Group, said the high standard of original recipes being uploaded by budding home chefs has been outstanding.

“First launched in September of last year, Best Home Chef was created to inspire Australians to get back into the kitchen. The community has been a hub for creativity and knowledge. We have witnessed new culinary creations come into fruition as home chefs cook classic dishes with a twist. Treasured family recipes are now shared for all to enjoy and most importantly, we have watched home chefs share their knowledge and tips to help others learn and develop their cooking styles.

“Within eight months more than 4,000 Australians have signed up to the community and uploaded in excess of 13,000 original recipes. The high standard of recipes being uploaded has been exceptional and we’re looking forward to witnessing the five finalists in action at the finale cook-off,” said Mr Winning.
